The Magical Girl’s Journey

I don’t think I’m going to write any more of Riko’s story as prose, so here’s a summary (which is still nearly 2000 words long!) The subsections are based on The Monomyth.

Riko Yamada, Magical Girl by sqbr
A 1am pencil sketch (plus digital colouring) of a character I invented for a writing meme: Riko Yamada, a 40ish year old Japanese Australian biostatistician in a manual wheelchair who unexpectedly transforms into a magical girl. The original description was “This friendly magical girl has large brown eyes and very long, straight, thick, charcoal-colored hair worn in an attractive style. She has a wide-hipped build. She has magic powers that come from a halbeird. Her flattering, nearly-nonexistent costume is red and blue.”, my initial design involved a European halberd since that’s all I knew of but then I saw a Chinese halberd (ji) and they are SO MUCH COOLER LOOKING so she has one of those now instead. Will probably change her two tone tiara-esque outfit since it was inspired by European halberd bearer clothes.

Original Fiction: The Call to Adventure

Yes, at last, the first part of my Magical Girl Heroes Journey. The blurb I was given was “This friendly magical girl has large brown eyes and very long, straight, thick, charcoal-colored hair worn in an attractive style. She has a wide-hipped build. She has magic powers that come from a halbeird. Her flattering, nearly-nonexistent costume is red and blue.”

And here’s the “Call to Adventure”, about 2000 words. And, right at the end, the fight scene! I have the rest of the Journey planned out but don’t know how much of it I’ll write. We’ll see!

21 Units of Writing

I’ve had fun doing art memes but all the writing memes I’ve seen were uninspiring. So here’s some prompts I do find inspiring modified from other people’s lists. It’s not “21 days” because who ever does these things one a day? Let’s set ourselves attainable goals here.

[“Send me a character and a number and I will draw it” Eighteen numbered palettes]

I’ll also take a kind of character or pairing instead of just one character, and am ok with extra prompts if one jumps out at you eg “Werewolf girl, 5, pretty dress”. And if you can’t see the palettes just tell me the kinds of colours you’d like!

1. Describe a barn from the perspective of a man whose son has just died in a war. Do not mention the son, the war, death, or the man.

Ahhhhhh this is so bad. Doesn’t help that I am hot and tired bluuuuh 43C summer days. But I need to practice writing more and not freaking out about stuff being bad. So. Didn’t bother with making it obviously not about a woman and her daughter cos screw that.

Nineteen Exercises

writeworld:

Note: Some of these exercises will produce bad writing. That’s fine. These are not guidelines of things you should do to every (or any) piece you write. They are just nifty little activities to try.

The end of the meme!

A flat coloured line drawing of me flying around happily in the green god tier outfit of a Maid of Mind from Homestuck.

I drew this both as the final picture in the 30 day “improve your draws” meme, and to try out the free art program Fire Alpaca. It is very simple but GREAT for inking and unlike GIMP or SAI works with my tablet on the Mac.

Last few meme things under the cut. EDIT: Wait, I double checked and skipped a couple. Will do ACTUAL last post soon.
